High Five Mentoring
High Five Mentoring is a school-based program that matches
high school mentors to elementary school students who are referred to
the program by their teachers. The one-to-one Matches meet once a week
during a class period at school. Big Brothers Big Sisters implements
the program within the school system and provides training, supervision
and ongoing support to the mentors. Academics serve as the vehicle to
developing a consistent relationship based on friendship, which has
been proven to positively influence the elementary school students'
self-esteem, academic performance and attitude toward school. In
addition, the mentor benefits from an improved sense of self worth and
an improved attitude toward community service.
